Two arrested in deadly fight at Lakewood poolroom

Police in Lakewood have arrested a couple in connection with a deadly assault at a poolroom last week.

A 47-year-old man died Friday from injuries sustained during a fight at the Last Call bar on Lakewood Drive Wednesday night. According to police, the altercation began when he accidentally bumped into a man playing pool.

The man punched the victim in the face so hard he fell to the ground, police said.

“He hit his head pretty hard on the tile floor and he went unconscious,” said Lt. Chris Lawler with Lakewood PD. “He just never regained consciousness.”

Lawler said witnesses at the scene identified the suspect as a regular at the bar. He was arrested and booked into jail for second-degree manslaughter.

“When he was told that he was being booked for manslaughter second and the victim had passed away, the lead detective said that he was visibly shaken,” Lawler said.

The suspect’s girlfriend was also arrested for second-degree manslaughter and rendering criminal assistance. Lawler said she was present for the assault and helped the suspect hide from police.
