Two men arrested in Seattle purse, necklace snatchings

Aug 31, 2012, 11:33 AM | Updated: 12:36 pm

Police have arrested two men for a series of strong-armed robberies in South Seattle, but caution that there may be more suspects at-large.

There have been more than 25 reported necklace and purse grabs in the neighborhood since Aug. 14, according to the Seattle Police Department. Several cases reported in Renton and elsewhere in King County are believed to be related.

“The suspects target women. They forcefully grab either their necklaces or their purses, ” said Detective Mark Jamieson. “In some of the cases, the victims were knocked to the ground and dragged several feet before the suspects were able to grab the property.”

Police believe that as many as five men are involved, two of which are already in custody.

On Aug. 24, a 19-year-old male turned himself in to Seattle Police Robbery detectives. On Thursday morning, a 20-year-old male suspect was arrested at his residence in Burien. Both were booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Robbery.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and they urge women in South Seattle to remain vigilant.

“We want to get the word out to potential victims,” Jamieson said. “Be aware of your surroundings.”

Anyone with information about the robberies or anyone who may know the identity or whereabouts of the remaining suspects is asked to call 911 or the Seattle Police Robbery Unit at (206) 684-5535.
