UPS just put in an order with Boeing that will have its Everett facility busy constructing new cargo and freighter jets.
The Puget Sound Business Journal reports that UPS ordered 14 Boeing 747-8F cargo jets as well as four 767 freighters on Thursday. The shipping company reportedly said it needs the new jets to increase its air transport capacity — UPS will gain more than 9 million pounds of extra cargo capacity.
The job comes with a $7.3 billion price tag.
Boeing’s Everett facility constructs both of the jets. The Journal notes that Boeing’s supply chain — businesses in the Puget Sound region — will also benefit from the deal.
UPS credits the recent tax breaks associated with President Donald Trump for its ability to purchase the jets. The shipping company says that the tax cuts have created savings which allow it to make such investments earlier than it planned.
Boeing reportedly is slated to deliver the jets on an “expedited schedule.” UPS has previously made an order with Boeing. The new order makes a total of 32 jets for the shipping company set for delivery by 2022.
