A missing 2-year-old boy in Utah has been pronounced dead after being located unresponsive in a drainage channel near Highway 150.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) received a report that a boy was missing in the Manorlands area at around 10:15 a.m. on June 14.

A preliminary investigation by the SCSO indicated that the child was staying with his family in a camping trailer near a cabin in the Manor Lands.

Approximately one hour after the initial report, a civilian located the child unresponsive on the side of the highway approximately one mile away from the campsite at 11:15 a.m.

The boy was transported by an ambulance to a hospital in Wyoming and later transferred to a hospital in Salt Lake, where he was pronounced deceased.

“The Summit County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the family during this incredibly difficult time,” SCSO said in the release. “Our hearts are with them as they grieve this heartbreaking loss.”

The SCSO noted there is no indication that the incident is anything more than a tragedy, although the investigation is still active.
