The West Valley, Utah City Council The West Valley City Council has decided not to release police records that detail the investigation into Susan Powell's disappearance and the ensuing probe of her husband.

Police records detailing the investigation into the disappearance of Susan Powell will remain sealed after the West Valley, Utah City Council ruled Tuesday it will not release them.

Anne Bremner, the attorney for the missing woman’s parents, says she’ll file suit after being rebuffed in efforts to get the records released.

“This is a case where I think anyone can understand the family’s desire to have answers in the disappearance of a child, and then you compound this case with the deaths of the grandchildren,” Bremner said.

Bremner appealed her case to the City Council last week. She contends that under Utah law, Powell’s parents should have access to the case files.

Susan Powell was reported missing Dec. 7, 2009. Authorities had been probing her husband, Josh, who maintained his innocence, then earlier this year killed himself and the couple’s two young sons at a home in Pierce County.

“I think that this case is not resolved in the public’s mind, at least not in my clients’ mind in terms of what’s been done, where Susan could be and what if any steps can be taken to find her,” Bremner said.
