Vancouver cop arrested following standoff

A Vancouver, Wash. police detective was arrested at his home in Washougal following a drunk driving stop and a standoff with local officers.
The detective was stopped by Washougal police Saturday night for suspected drunk driving but refused to get out of his car, according to police spokesman Allen Cook.
The Columbian reports officers cited Jeremy Free, 40, for negligent driving, obstructing an officer and going through a stop sign.
Officers allowed a woman in the car to drive the detective and two children away from the scene.
Tuesday night, when officers tried to serve a search warrant at the detective’s Washougal home, he held a handgun for several minutes while standing on a balcony. He didn’t threaten anybody but refused commands to come out of the house for 45 minutes, according to Cook.
The detective was eventually arrested, booked and released that same night and is now on paid leave. The case is being reviewed by the Clark County Prosecuting Attorney’s office.
