The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Washington state, forecasting highs well above normal for the lower Cascade region on Wednesday and Thursday.

The weather agency forecasts a chance for Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to hit 90 degrees Thursday, which would make for the 12th such instance in 2022.

Strong high pressure aloft is building over the Pacific Northwest. Combined with the easing of onshore breezes from the Pacific Ocean, temperatures will rise again well above average. With longer nights than a month ago, the high temperatures will spike upward and then cool right back down.

Some relief from the heat is expected over the weekend as the weather pattern shifts a bit, but more warm weather may lie ahead next week heading into the coming holiday weekend.
