One of the biggest decision made by the Legislature this year was the decision to raise certain taxes to increase the amount of money spent on education.

Under rules put in place by one of the Tim Eyman initiatives, those decisions had to go on the ballot for a non-binding advisory vote.

And the voters’ advice was that the funding should be repealed. It wasn’t even close.

The increase in property taxes to directly address school funding was rejected by 62 percent of voters.

And another measure to raise revenue by closing a tax exemption on bottled water, pulling back on another exemption for oil refineries, and expanding tax collection for online purchases got a 65 percent vote urging repeal.

A third vote related to increasing revenue for the state’s wildlife account by increasing commercial fishing lessen fees and streamlining wholesale fish dealing, buying and selling requirements was rejected by 57 percent.

Just remember, none of the voters were binding.
