Officials with Seattle police and fire departments said after 10:20 a.m. Friday they found a deceased body inside of an apartment in the Roxhill area.

KIRO 7 was told Seattle police were called to the 8800 block of 35th Avenue SW  for a welfare check by one of a 40-year-old woman’s friends who had not seen her in a very long time.

When officers entered the apartment, they were overcome with the smell of bleach and ammonia and were transported to Harborview Medical Center to be checked out for exposure, officials said.

Other officers at the scene waited until a Seattle Fire Department HAZMAT team arrived to check things out and make sure it was safe for police to enter.

Officials said there was a mixture of ammonia and Clorox but did not say if the mixture caused the woman’s death.

KIRO 7 asked if the woman’s death was a homicide and was told it was a death investigation.

After fire crews determined the mixture was not an active hazard to the public, they turned the scene over to Seattle police and the medical examiner.

The street was closed at 35th Avenue SW and SW Henderson for some time for the investigation.

No cause of death was released, and police are continuing their investigation.
