Snow blankets north Puget Sound region

A trace to a couple inches of snow has blanketed northern areas of the Puget Sound region, including in Shoreline, Lynnwood, Redmond, Maltby, Everett, and Bothell.
The city of Duvall reported about six inches of snow late Sunday.

Flurries of snow will continue to fall across the region through Monday morning into the afternoon, especially south of Snohomish County. Between Sunday and Monday, Seattle can expect a trace to 3 inches of snow.

Of note, however, will be the Bellingham area across the San Juans southwest to Port Angeles and along the Strait. The effects of strong winds out of British Columbia and mountain lift could give these locations 3-6 inches of snow and big travel problems that last into Monday morning.
Closer to Seattle, University of Washington Professor of Atmospheric Sciences Cliff Mass expects the south end of Puget Sound to get the bulk of Sunday and Monday’s snowfall.
“Another region of snow (.5 to 3 inches) is found from Seattle southwards, where the cold northerly flow converges with westerly/southwesterly flow from off the Pacific,” Mass outlined in a recent blog post. “So at this point, south Seattle looks more heavily effected.”
All told, while it won’t be a snow event on par with what the region saw last February, there’s still a chance it could be enough to cause problems on roads — leave extra distance between you and the the vehicle in front of you, clear off your windshield before you drive, and drive slowly.
Tuesday is expected to be dry and cold, with low temperatures in the mid 20s. Snow is expected to pick up again by Wednesday and Thursday, although at this point, it’s too early to know the extent.
