A body was found Monday evening after a fire at an Edmonds apartment complex.
The fire was called in about 6 p.m. at Gateway Apartments along 240th Street SW.
When firefighters arrived, they say wispy smoke coming from a second floor apartment.
“[Firefighters] entered the apartment and found a small fire in the living room which they extinguished very quickly and then they discovered that they had a victim that had died in the fire,” said Leslie Hynes, spokeswoman for Snohomish County Fire District 1.
No other information about the victim was immediately available. Hynes said the fire was confined to a single apartment, and no one else was injured.
Fire investigators determined that the fire was started likely by a clip-on reading lamp that came loose and ignited some bedding.
The firefighters believe the fire caused about $50,000 in damage.
