Washington State Patrol says it is now looking for a second suspect in a shooting that took place during a weekend protest in Olympia.

The incident took place on Saturday near the Washington State Capitol, after a clash between pro-Trump demonstrators gathering to protest the results of the 2020 presidential election and a group of anti-fascist counter-protesters.

Video from the scene shows crowds from either side moving toward each other before a single gunshot is heard. Another video posted to Twitter appears to show a suspect running away from the scene and putting on a red hat. A 20-year-old man was left with serious injuries from the shooting.

Olympia police and Washington State Troopers tracked down and arrested that initial suspect, identified as a 25-year-old Bellingham resident. Bail was set at $50,000 on Monday.

Law enforcement believes there is a second suspect at large, citing video confirming a second shot was fired during the conflict. The other suspect appeared to be clad in all black with his face covered, with WSP theorizing that he might have been “a member of the opposing group from the first shooter.”

Anyone with information that could help police identify and arrest the other suspect is encouraged to contact WSP Detective Sergeant Matt Wood at (306) 704-2955.
