I swear to god I saw Madeline Follin from Cults pass right on by me at the Croc last night and I said nary a word. She (if it was her and i swear/hope it was) was zipping up her Northface? jacket and walking towards the back bar of the Croc or the front door. I’m not exactly sure because much like a child who suffers from ADHD and stares at you until a pretty butterfly comes in to view, I lost interest and watched the damn butterfly. Secondly, girls can sometimes intimidate the sh*t out of me. And thirdly, I wanted to play it cool much like my experience at the Warpaint show where I swear I saw the bassist of said band buying overpriced booze drinks at the Paramount Theatre. From both of these experiences I gained nothing except the mild regret of not saying ‘hey’. Oh, and amazing shows.

Last night I was living and breathing 1962. The Chantels were losing steam while The Shirelles were just coming to prominence and little did anyone know that Cults were going to be big. Really big. Now it’s 2011 and Cults have finally made it! Yes, it took them almost 50 years to make something for themselves but they are here and here to stay.

I’ve been following these guys for the past year or so and I was so excited to be able to see Cults live and in person. Brian Oblivion and Madeline Follin who are the backbone of the band played and sung their hearts out last night, so you should watch the videos below to experience 1962 and to experience a band you need to investigate further.

Oh! Record Store Day is rapidly approaching (Saturday April 16th approaching) and Cults are releasing a limited edition 7″ vinyl for their song ‘Abducted’. Buy it. You will love it.
