Michael Selvidge is a communications manager at Twilio, a cloud communications company which requires all new employees to build an app to make sure they have the chops to work at the joint. Well, all signs point to the fact that Selvidge definately has the chops to build a successful app as his Callin Oates Hotline has racked up more than 250,000 calls in less than two days of being online. Upon dialing 719-26-OATES, you’ll hear a computerized British woman’s voice telling you that you have reached the emergency Hall and Oates help-line and it just gets better from there. She then instructs you to choose from four Hall and Oates songs – ‘One on One,’ ‘Rich Girl,’ ‘Maneater’ and ‘Private Eyes.’ After you choose a song, it starts up right away thus allowing you to slip into a much needed Hall and Oates coma.
The only reason this experimental app exists in the world is to make people happy. And it totally works.
