Them Crooked Vultures

Over the past several months I’ve noticed that musicians from really good bands and some really horrible ones have been joining forces and creating ‘Supergroups’. Tinted Windows is one such supergroup consisting of ex-Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha, singer Taylor Hanson of Hanson, bassist Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne and Bun E. Carlos, drummer for Cheap Trick. They are a crappy band that sing about crappy things.

Then you have Chickenfoot.

This supergroup not only has a severely dumb name but gets only slightly better with the inclusion of ex-Van Halen-ers, Sammy Hagar who takes on vocals and Michael Anthony on bass, Joe Satriani on guitar and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. Chickenfoot sounds like they entered a time machine with a date set for 1994, chatted with an unimportant band that had nothing of relevance to say and came back to the present sounding exceptionally generic.

All of this brings me to Them Crooked Vultures, which I hope, will put all other supergroups to bed. This group consists of super amazing drummer Dave Grohl, Queens of the Stone Age guitarist and frontman Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones. They’ve got a song out now called ‘New Fang’ and, well, even though it’s not a mind blowingly awesome track, I think that any band with Dave Grohl on drums and Josh Homme up front has a good thing going for it already. I predict success. Disagree? Then you need to listen to this album and then tell me I’m wrong.

Them Crooked Vultures have a debut album to be released November 17th and they’re visiting Seattle November 21st playing the Paramount Theatre.

New Music: Onuinu – ‘Happy Home’

Dorian Duvall is Onuinu, (on-you-in-you) an electro-pop music maker coming to us from Portland, OR whose pseudonym is one that I’m sure will confuse the masses with it’s exact pronunciation for years to come. It’s a good thing that the music coming form this dude is something worth paying attention to or else it would […]
