Hundreds of shovels break ground on new Seattle zoo exhibit

The shovels looked a little different Tuesday as they broke ground on the newest exhibit at Woodland Park Zoo.
Aptly, the shovels were tiger-striped, and hundreds of kids pushed some dirt around in the ceremonial breaking of the ground on the new tiger and sloth bear exhibit complex.
The $19.6 million exhibit will transform the 60-year-old outdated tiger and sloth exhibit into what Woodland Park Zoo President and CEO Deborah Jensen calls the most ambitious transformation the zoo has undertaken since 1996.
The exhibit will include specialized training stations where zoo-goers will get to watch keepers interact with the animals, as well as an adjacent immersive play area for kids.
