Having recently purchased the “Star Wars” franchise from Lucasfilm for $4 billion, the Walt Disney Co. is shifting the films into hyperdrive. Not only has Disney already begun working on a new trilogy, to start with J.J. Abrams directing episode seven, but reports this week have said possible spinoffs are being developed for young Han Solo, the bounty hunter Boba Fett and Yoda. The cast of the latest Star Wars film has been announced, and in the next chapter of the franchise that takes place a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away – there will be some familiar faces.

Reprising their roles for “Star Wars: Episode VII” from the original Star Wars trilogy will be Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker.

The newest actors and actress to make their debut in the saga are John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow.

From the announcement on Facebook:

Director J.J. Abrams says, “We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”

Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer.

The film’s tentative release date is squarely set during the holiday season: December 18, 2015.

Details of the script and story have remained close to the vest. A summary of the film as posted on the movie’s IMDB page only says, “A continuation of the saga created by George Lucas.”
