Spokane Teacher Fired for Reading From "To Kill a Mockingbird"

Matthew Mastronardi, a Spanish teacher at Spokane's West Valley High School, is having his teaching contract terminated after he read to his class from the assigned book "To Kill a Mockingbird".   As Mastronardi explains it, he wanted to use the controversial passage as an opportunity to explain the importance of context, historical significance and critical thinking to his students.
