Criticize radicals for their actions, not their origins

Jul 17, 2019, 5:25 AM

At the very moment that Democrats seemed to be ripping their party apart, with radical, freshman members of the House of Representatives “Squad” attacking Speaker Nancy Pelosi for racism, President Trump foolishly managed to unite the opposition with a series of indefensible tweets.

Trump decried Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib and their colleagues as “Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe” and then added: “Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.”

Actually, three of the four radical Congresswomen are born in the USA, and the fourth is a naturalized citizen who’s lived here for 27 years, since she was nine. Worse yet, Trump’s comments have rallied the Democrats in unanimous defense of four extremists who deserve criticism for their actions, but not their origins.
