Presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke’s loony plan for compulsory “buy-back” of AR-15’s and similar weapons, exposes the glaring contradiction at the core of Democratic thinking on gun regulation. When asked how he plans to force people to give up their legally acquired weapons, Beto says: “We expect our fellow Americans to follow the law … There’s a significant reliance on people complying with the law.”

In other words, he maintains confidence that gun-owners would obey future rules demanding they hand over their guns, but he fears these same folks will disregard existing laws against using those weapons to kill people.

Good news on abortion challenges Democratic logic

He’s right that the overwhelming majority of gun-owners are law-abiding, good citizens; that’s why their ownership of fire arms presents no danger to anyone. Meanwhile, those most likely to use their weapons in criminal activity are similarly likely to defy new—and utterly pointless—gun restrictions.
