Maybe a massive earthquake would be good, at least our roads would be fixed

If we do get that big earthquake that The New Yorker was warning us of, the 9.0 quake that could end up destroying everything west of I-5, Peter Antolin, Deputy Director of Washington’s Emergency Management Division says we should be prepared.

The latest earthquakes recorded in Seattle and the Pacific Northwest

It’s good to be prepared, but he says we aren’t “toast,” like the article describes. He says, “define toast.”

Antolin says the reality is there will be pockets where people will be able to survive. Well that doesn’t make me feel too much better. Get me some pockets! Basically, it’s going to be “The Walking Dead.”

Antolin then says the quake will last three to six minutes and will send our road system into the 1800s. And, based on current traffic levels, that actually sounds appealing, because we’ll actually be able to move again. I take it in the 1800s horses and carriages could get about, these days we’ve got rush hour from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. and that’s just insane.

Check current traffic conditions.

I think we need to have a plan right now, not just for human survival, but we also need a plan &#8212 if all of our transportation infrastructure is destroyed and then the federal government is going to sweep in and pay for everything &#8212 let’s make a plan right now for what we want. Let’s get rid of the convention center and expand I-5 through Seattle. It’s insane as it is anyway. And lets get the rest of the states to subsidize us and get a major new investment and actually be able to get cars and trucks to move.

I know so many people terrified of this earthquake now, they don’t even want to live west of I-5. I just want pennies on the dollar property on the coast line. “You gotta’ live until you die,” in the words of Clay Walker.
