Washington Democrats are once again looking to squeeze more money out of taxpayers, pushing House Bill 1334, which would raise the property tax cap from 1% to 3%. If passed, this would funnel an estimated $1.8 billion into state coffers.

Rep. Chris Corry, R-Yakima, isn’t buying claims from Democrats that this legislation is necessary. On “The Jason Rantz Show” on KTTH, he blasted the proposal as yet another attempt to burden working families without addressing the real problem: out-of-control spending.

“Our state revenues continue to grow, and without any new taxes this year, our revenue over the next four years will grow by another $4 to $5 billion,” Corry said. “King County Executive Dow Constantine talking about, ‘Well, here’s what we’re going to have to cut.’ It is all disingenuous fear mongering. It’s the laziest form of running a government for the people because it preys on people’s lack of information.”

Democrats hold public safety hostage

“The Jason Rantz Show” on KTTH exclusively reported that Constantine’s planned budget for 2026-2027 included over $85 million cuts to public safety.

Corry also pointed out the hypocrisy of Democrats, who claim to oppose regressive taxes but continue pushing policies that disproportionately hurt working-class families.

“This is just another regressive tax. It’s going to hurt working families,” he warned. “And I hear from my colleagues in Olympia all the time, ‘Our taxes are regressive. Our taxes are regressive. It hurts poor and working Washingtonians.’ Well, that’s exactly what this will do.”

With Democrats holding the majority in Olympia, Corry expects the bill to pass unless voters make their voices heard. He urged Washingtonians to pressure moderate Democrats who may be on the fence, reminding them that responsible budgeting—not endless tax increases—is the answer.
