New Department of Labor statistics on inflation was released Thursday, showing that consumer prices have increased 8.2% in the last 12 months. It’s higher than they’ve been historically and unlikely to end anytime soon.

Social Security payments are also being raised significantly next year, with rates automatically increasing to adjust for inflation. The average benefit for retirees is an additional $141 a month.

Bryan Suits, host of the Bryan Suits Show on KTTH, spoke about the White House’s role in fighting (or not fighting) the rising inflation that is making even the most basic purchases difficult for the average American.

“I predict that that’s what the White House did last month, a month before, a month before that, if there’s any particular part of inflation that goes down, though, they’ll say, ‘what are you talking about?'” Suits said. “And that’s what the President said last month, is actually if you think about it, inflation went down year over year, 8.0% to 8.2%. It would have to go down by negative 8.2% for that. But anyway, that’s your great news, inflation is still around.”
