A unique ‘thank you’ for veterans

Nov 7, 2017, 9:17 AM | Updated: Oct 1, 2024, 10:01 am

Veterans Day is Saturday.

There’s a lot you can do for our veterans. You can simply look them in the eyes and thank them. Maybe buy them lunch. Or, you could give a veteran a wedding dress.

That last one is thanks to a non-profit in Portland called Brides for a Cause. The boutique has bridal gowns that are new or only worn once.

“A lot of people do donate because they want it to be used again. and then on the flip side it also helps brides looking for a dress because weddings can get expensive. A lot of people don’t mind a worn-once dress,” owner Erin Scharf told KOIN TV.

They’re sold at a steeply discounted price year-round, but for active duty, veterans, or women whose fiances are serving the gowns will be free for the next two weeks.

It’s a cause so worthy that the bridal shop is constantly receiving donated dresses from individuals and retailers from across the country.

There’s also a Brides for a Cause location in Tacoma.
