A place for local whisteblowers

Did you know there’s a place you can go to learn about government waste and misdoings on a local basis?

Glen Morgan, founder of a site called “We the Governed”, joined me in the studio Thursday to talk about how he helps Citizens tracks down the misdeeds of government.

Glen talked about how Douglas County, in the middle of the state, didn’t record or report the assets that they have on the books.  You’re supposed to do this every year but they didn’t report it for five years.  This is a gross misdemeanor.  But if they’re not prosecuted by a state prosecutor, a citizen can charge the county with a crime.

Glen says there are a lot of county inventory fiascos and we need to hold governments accountable for these things.

If a private citizen didn’t pay the property tax for a million dollar piece of land, they would have their property taken.  But elected officials are involved in government corruption at a local level.  Glen says this is the kind of thing that happens when we don’t pay attention to what’s going on in local government.
