It must be tough to be a wife of a New England Patriots player.

Last year after a tough loss in the Super Bowl, the supermodel wife of quarterback Tom Brady, Gisele Bundchen, complained “My husband cannot (expletive blank’n) throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time.” There were a lot of dropped passes in that game.

One of those droppers was Wes Welker. This past Sunday, after another tough playoff loss, the wife of Wes Welker took to Facebook to blow off some steam. But she didn’t go after Tom Brady – she went after the star of the team that just beat the Patriots, Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis.

Welker’s wife – who by the by was the 2005 Miss Hooters – posted this after the game: “Proud of my husband and the Pats. By the way, if anyone is bored, please go to Ray Lewis’ Wikipedia page. Six kids, four wives. Acquitted for murder. Paid a family off. Yay! What a hall of fame player. A true role model!!”

Now, not all of us can be “true role models” like former Miss Hooters can. But her cracks about Lewis aren’t false.

He was charged in 2000 of murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault. He was with a bunch of friends at a post-Super Bowl party when a fight broke out between his group and another group. Two people were stabbed to death and Lewis and two friends were charged for the murders.

Lewis told everyone in his group to “keep their mouths shut and don’t say nothing.” And Lewis’ blood-stained white suit was never found.

The charges against Lewis were eventually dropped when he agreed to testify against his two friends, who were later acquitted on grounds of self-defense. He plead guilty instead to a misdemeanor charge of obstructing justice.

Somewhat ironically, Ray Lewis – now, 13 years later – is being heralded as an inspiration – maybe even a role model. He’s been the heart and soul of the Baltimore Ravens for all that time.

He’s been one of the greatest defensive players in the history of the NFL – he’s been a Super Bowl MVP, the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year twice, and an All-Pro 10 times. A lot of people credit his announced retirement at the end of this year as the inspiration that helped push the underdog Ravens all the way to the Super Bowl.

By the way, Mrs. Welker has since apologized for her Facebook rant, saying she’s embarrassed for being a sore loser.
