‘Another slap in the face for Sonics fans’

Aug 25, 2017, 1:31 PM | Updated: 1:33 pm

Not only did Oklahoma City steal our NBA team, now it’s stealing our Sonics history.

In the new NBA 2K18 video game, the Oklahoma City Thunder’s all-time team includes players that never played in Oklahoma.

Gary Payton, Shawn Kemp, Spencer Haywood, and more are included in the all-time OKC team. Forbes published a list of all the players on the all-time teams.

Jason Reid of Sonicsgate told KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson that it’s just another example of the poor settlement agreement signed by former Mayor Greg Nickels.

Essentially, the video game can put Sonics players in Thunder jerseys because the cities agreed that the franchise’s history would follow the team to Oklahoma. That includes the people who played for the franchise, even if they did so in Seattle. The name and team’s colors remain under Seattle ownership.

“This is just another slap in the face for Sonics fans,” Reid said.
