The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on a number of families that many of us will never understand or know about.

Brock Huard joined the Dori Monson Show on Thursday to tell a story of a young man from Washington state who took his own life about two months ago. Brock’s daughter, Hailey, was Cade Gebber’s friend. Cade’s father asked Brock to tell his son’s story.

“What an incredible, selfless kid,” Brock said. “Cade cared so much more about others than he did himself. He was so selfless. He was such a bright light. He was such a shining star and to see that he was in this kind of hurt, and did not connect and did not have those that could connect with him …”

Brock urges us all to connect with each other and young people in our communities, in our churches, and in our schools.

“It takes less than seven seconds to reach out and make that call,” Brock said. “If you’re (reading) this now, and know that one of your friends is hurting, and you know that someone is going through a tough time, more than ever, make that call today.”

If you or someone you know needs to talk, the National Suicide Prevention Hotline is 1-800-273-8255. Lifeline Center calls are free and confidential, and available 24/7.

Listen to the Dori Monson Show weekday afternoons from noon – 3 p.m. on KIRO Radio, 97.3 FM. Subscribe to the podcast here.
