Changing my Seahawks prediction

At one point in Sunday’s Seattle Seahawks vs. Detroit Lions game, they put a graphic on the screen of all the running backs the Seahawks have used since Marshawn Lynch was in full Beast Mode. Fox Sports could barely fit all names on the screen. Pete Carroll has a formula to win games, and it starts with great blocking and running the ball hard. Both of those have been in scarce supply in recent years.

Well don’t look now, but it appears to me that the Seahawks have found their swagger again.

They performed like a bonafide professional football team on the hunt for the playoffs in Detroit.

I’m shocked. It looks like I was totally wrong. I’ve never been happier to have put my foot in my mouth.

After several seasons in a row where it didn’t seem like the Hawks could execute even the most basic blocking scheme, and watching Russell Wilson run around the backfield aimlessly, I predicted on this show that the best the 12s could hope for was a 7-9 season. Then the Seahawks started firing everyone not named Pete Carroll on the coaching staff, and churning through the roster at a blistering pace. The Legion of Boom was dismantled and sold for scrap, just about every big name from the Super Bowl team is now playing somewhere else.

Nearly all the players that I recognize are gone from this squad. In fact, there were several times after a Seahawk touchdown on Sunday that I had to hit pause on my DVR and look up who the player was that just scored.

Can you tell that my interest had waned just a little bit?

As the season sits right now, the Hawks are angling for a Wild Card berth. The LA Rams are a perfect 8-0, so the division is out of the question. It quite possibly could be another crash course with the Carolina Panthers on Wild Card Weekend if the Seahawks can continue to play like they did on Sunday.

Add to the mix that six out of nine remaining games are at home for the Hawks. It’s a fairly accepted fact that they have one of the best home field advantages in the league.

If it doesn’t offend everyone too much, I’d like to change my prediction and declare publicly that this could be a 10-win playoff bound team.

Obviously a lot can happen in the next nine weeks, but I think it’s time to dust off your discount bin Richard Sherman jersey and get back on the Seahawks bandwagon.

This team looks good.
