Chihuly exhibit review: “I loved it…for free”

The new Chihuly exhibit at Seattle Center is generating
plenty of reaction, from adoration to Dori Monson’s
disgust. So Bill and his 5-year-old daughter had to go
see it for themselves.

“The good sign was that Susannah was asking all the right
questions, and by that I mean all the same questions…
“what’s that?” Bill says.

Even the entrance captured her imagination. “It’s
striking to the point where Susannah didn’t believe it was
glass.”

Along with the glass art Bill calls “awesome”, he and
daughter alike found the short films that take you inside
Chihuly’s work and his world captivating, along with a
collection of personal memorabilia the famous artist
gathered over the years including bottle openers, radios
and fishing lures.

“It’s a big wow factor.”

So you’d figure Bill is offering his enthusiastic
endorsement for the exhibition, right? Not quite.

“In a sense, I would I would say it’s not for kids in that
if we had paid full freight it would have been $19 bucks
for me and $12 for my 5-year-old. I loved it for free.”
