City documents reveal Ballard is getting a Target

Jul 13, 2018, 7:26 AM | Updated: 7:33 am

Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood is likely already unrecognizable to someone who hasn’t been there in years. That’s especially true for the neighborhood’s busiest intersection of Market Street and 15th Avenue NW, which continues to transform.

The latest addition: Target.

According to city documents, a “small-format” Target with a pharmacy and small market will occupy a portion of the new building currently under construction at 1448 NW Market Street.

Also planned for the building are a Polyclinic, WeWork, and Equal Exchange, MyBallard.com first reported.

According to the project’s Master Use Permit, the building will be up to five stories with 202,284 square feet of office and retail space and parking for 253 vehicles below ground. There will be no housing, according to the permit.

The building replaces what was most recently a gas station, before becoming a giant hole in the ground.

The site is located next to AVA Ballard, a multi-story apartment building that replaced the iconic Sunset Bowl after selling the owners sold the property for more than $13 million. It was a move that didn’t sit well with some who took it personally.
