KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson has been named a finalist for a the Marconi Award for Best Large Market Personality of the Year.

The Marconi Awards are given annually by the National Association of Broadcasters, which represents thousands of radio and TV stations around the country. Named after Nobel Prize winner Guglielmo Marconi, whose work created the foundation for modern radio transmission, the awards honor stations and personalities for upholding a standard of excellence.

“Dori is one of the great local talk talents in the country. He’s entertaining, thought-provoking, and always looking to improve himself,” stated Ryan Maguire, KIRO’s director of news and programming. “I have a tremendous amount of respect for him over three decades of longevity in the Seattle media market. We at KIRO are gratified to see him receive national accolades for his work.”

The winners will be announced at the NAB Marconi Awards Dinner and Show on Sept. 27 in Orlando, FL.

“I won the 1976 Seafair Jr. Pirate bowling tournament at Sunset Bowl in Ballard (full disclosure – I believe there were only six entrants), and a 2016 State Championship coaching the Shorecrest girls. A Marconi would finally complete my lifetime Triple Crown,” Dori said.

He continued, “In all seriousness, it’s very exciting to be nominated by my peers for broadcasting’s highest honor. I owe it all to our show’s fantastic listeners who have made it possible to do this gig that I love so much. My sincere thanks.”
