It’s not often Dori and his wife are the youngest at a gig, so you can imagine how they felt Saturday night seeing 70’s rockers Kansas at the Emerald Queen Casino.

The band behind hits like “Dust in the Wind ” and “Carry on My Wayward Sun” is still going strong on the casino circuit, joining such classic rock stalwarts as Foreigner, Chicago, Journey and The Doobie Brothers on a seemingly perpetual trip down memory lane.

For Dori, Kansas represents his first car – a ’72 Plymouth Duster he got in high school after turning 16 in 1977. The one thing he really wanted was a killer stereo system. Thanks to his buddy Don and a discount stereo shop on Aurora, he got it.

“So he [Don] hooked up the stereo, he put in the cassette. The first song we ever listened to on my new stereo was “Carry On My Wayward Son,” Dori beamed. “I felt the bass coming through my chest.”

Needless to say, Dori doesn’t crank the tunes quite as loud these days. And he wonders if many bands today will have the longevity of his favorite 70’s staples like Kansas.

Intrepid news anchor Ursula Reutin is sure there’ll be plenty of her favorites still going strong. Among them, The Fray, Train and Coldplay.

Many of the Dori faithful agree.

Here’s some of the responses from the Facebook page:

Kevin Mcguigan: Deep Purple (with Steve Morse)

Diego Erdozain: I have three examples, but if you’re not into hard rock or metal, you may not me aware of them… Dream Theater (20+ years) Alter Bridge (10 years) Coheed and Cambria (15+ years) all great bands, all still putting out great music.

Peter Doellefeld: Not rock, but I’m imagining what Ad-Rock, MCA and Mike D (The Beastie Boys) at 70 would have been like. Oh well.

Scott DeKay: Jack White, Rhianna!

Richard K Johannesen: Saw Peter Cetera last Thursday at the Silver Reef Casino. He was great for age 68!

Angela Banning: Most bands today have such a manufactured sound, its hard to appreciate them for being musicians, but I think Alison Krauss and the Union Station will stand the test of time. And little less known are Tedeschi Trucks band.

Magen Noyd: Pearl Jam, Avett Brothers
