Echo boomers – children of baby boomers – grew to the largest segment of home buyers in the most recent Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers conducted by the National Association of Realtors.
More than one-third (36 percent) of recent buyers were ages 25 to 34 years old. This segment of home buyers is at the largest share in the past decade.
Not only has housing affordability has opened the market to younger buyers, but members of this segment of the population have shown they are better educated and further along in a career.
Other echo boomer features: ensuring a college education before getting married, getting married older, having children later in life, and a desire to be homeowners. Echo boomers are more likely to purchase a home single than a married adult of their parent’s generation.
