Hillary: Using tears as a weapon?

Jan 24, 2013, 6:16 AM | Updated: 6:19 am

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton displayed strong emotion Wednesday when describing her embrace of families who had lost loved ones in Benghazi. She choked-up and sounded on the verge of tears. There’s no doubt such losses ARE personally felt, emotional, and difficult, but the cynic in me could not help but remember that the only time I’ve seen strong public emotion from Hillary is when her back was against the wall and she started to lose the primary to then-Senator Obama. At the Senator Foreign Relations committee she was confronted with a lot of things that called into question her competence. It struck me that tears can be used as a political weapon as well particularly when most of the media is on your side. The story than becomes “emotional Hillary battles back against angry male GOP senators.” I wish I thought I was being too cynical, but I don’t think I am.

Hillary “choked up” on the campaign trail in 2008 in the midst of getting hammered for going negative on then Senator Obama.

And recall when Bill Clinton showed the ability to create insta-tears, which was immortalized on the Rush Limbaugh TV show.
