Is Dow Constantine’s affair our business? Dori weighs in

King County Executive Dow Constantine admits he had an affair, but he says, essentially, it’s none of our business. But there’s certainly plenty of food for fodder in the story first revealed by the local news website Crosscut. It all stems from an e-mail “mistakenly” sent to a large group from the woman involved with Constantine. While the County Executive isn’t married, he has been in a long term, live-in relationship. And Dori wonders if that’s what’s most important here.

“For a lot of people, especially at his end of the political spectrum, they say ‘oh marriage is just a piece of paper and you can be every bit as committed without the document as you can in marriage.’ So they try to tell us if you love somebody and you’re living together and you’re committed to that person it’s every bit a sacred bond as is marriage so I take them at their word,” Dori says.

While Constantine’s political consultant says he’s confident there was no official misconduct such as using county money or time for the affair, Dori says he has to wonder about a guy that’s willing to cheat on someone he’s supposedly committed to, and the circumstances.

“If you’re having an affair it’s usually on company time because if you have time where you’re usually with your partner they know when that time is and the only time you can free up to get away is at work.”

A number of outlets have now requested Constantine’s official schedule and other records to try and verify his claims nothing happened on county time. And Dori and producer Jake are wondering about the woman who sent the incriminating email. It turns out Constantine had ended the relationship and her note was a plea to him. And both speculate she might have wanted to punish him for scorning her.

“I’m thinking this was not an accident,” Dori speculates.
