Did the March for Science over the weekend seem oriented toward debate, or oriented towards an exchange of ideas?

It seemed to me that it was people only marching for conclusions.

There were signs saying things such as, “Support Gender Studies Equals Freedom of Research.” Is someone saying don’t allow gender studies? Or what about the sign that said: “Not Even Hitler Doubted Climate Change.”

They also said, “Biological Sex is a Social Construct.”

Well, everything is a social construct. We have organs and differences in our bone structure and muscle composition; men and women’s brains processing things differently.

On Twitter, the Science March D.C. said, “Colonization, racism, immigration, native rights, sexism, ableism, queer trans and intersex phobia are scientific issues.” Really? Can science solve racism? How? A pill? Is immigration a science issue?

They also said, “America’s stringent adherence to the two sex paradigm is inconsistent with science.” No, it’s not.

Science is a process; it is not a conclusion. It’s not only science that made America great. It’s debate and the Constitution that also made America great.

And people like Bill Nye are afraid of that very debate.

Listen below to the entire conversation.
