A local mayor is taking his criticisms of Governor Jay Inslee to the next level.

The mayor of Winlock — and the city council — passed a proclamation saying they have a sincere belief that Gov. Inslee requires professional medical intervention for narcissistic personality disorder.

Why are they calling for a professional medical intervention?

“Well, he’s calling for folks to get vaccinated to keep their jobs and I think it’s only fair that he submit himself to medical review to keep his,” said Winlock Mayor Brandon Svenson. “I think there’s enough question there to validate that at this point.”

As for how he got to the conclusion of narcissistic personality disorder, he went through the symptoms on KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson Show.

“Having an inflated sense of self importance, check, expecting special treatment, check, exaggerating achievements, check, reacting negatively to criticism, check, taking advantage of others, double check,” Svenson said. “Having an inability or unwillingness to recognize the needs and feelings of others, check, behaving in an arrogant manner. That’s what leads me to believe that.”

This was approved by the city council as well, but does not have any binding power.

Svenson says a spokesperson with the Governor’s Office said “something about it being childish and not offering up any advancements to the COVID situation.”

Dori says Mike Faulk, deputy director of communications with Inslee’s office, said of Svenson that the people of Winlock deserve better leadership.

“Yeah, how about that? I would say the citizens of Washington state deserve better leadership,” Svenson replied. “I think that that’s far more pressing at this point than what I’m doing.”

At the root of this, Svenson says, is that Gov. Inslee overstepped his authority and continues to do so.

“There there has been an irresponsible amount of government overreach, as far as I’m concerned,” he said. “And it’s really unfortunate that the legislation will not rescind these emergency powers and do their job, listen to their constituents, do what they were elected to do.”

“We’re working on two years now, and under RCW 43.06.220, it does provide limited emergency actions that can be taken by the governor,” Svenson said. “But those actions do not include the authority to create laws or manage vaccine policy, and we put that in the proclamation. Only legislation can create laws, and that has not happened here.”

When asked if he truly thinks this narcissistic personality disorder is a legitimate medical condition that Inslee has or if it’s just to mess with him, Svenson says he thinks “the shoe fits rather well.”

“I’m not a psychologist, but I have my concerns,” he said.
