Michael Medved’s one big hope on Election Day

Michael Medved reflects on Election Day and talks about moving forward as a country.

Part of my feeling on Election Day is very much one of relief and I think that’s sort of something that I have in common with a lot of us. I realize something about why it is that this campaign in particular has been so profoundly annoying and that is because it’s been almost issue-free.
Because there are no issues, it’s all personality and both of these are Baby Boomer personalities. And there’s something wrong with us as Baby Boomers. Hillary Clinton is Class of ’65, I’m Class of ’65, Trump is Class of ’64, Al Gore is Class of ’65, George Bush was Class of ’64. This is the last hurrah of the Baby Boomers and I think that’s good thing.

Since 1980 – I’ve voted for a every Republican candidate, but not this time. Cannot do it. Partially because of the idea of “I alone can fix it,” which he said in his acceptance speech and he’s tweeted several times. That’s so undemocratic, and frankly un-American and unworthy of the country. I think it goes away. My one big hope, at the end of the campaign because it is so much about personality — when one of the two personalities sort of shuffles off stage, then some of the toxin goes away. Then you can talk a little bit… about things we can do to fix things for the country. People may be surprised how quickly the country comes together regardless of how either candidate behaves.
