Port of Seattle’s Rob Holland under fire for excessive intern salaries

For years the Port of Seattle has been embroiled in controversies: first, a corruption and fraud probe, then a recent outcry due to CEO Tay Yoshitani’s appointment to the board of a shipping company. Most recently the port is under fire for commissioner Rob Holland’s statement that he would like to hire up to five new interns to do clerical work, paid up to $50,000 per year.

“The Port of Seattle is one of the few ports – think about all the ships that come in to Downtown Seattle, to our waterfront, think about all the planes that take off and land at Sea-Tac, and the Port of Seattle, of course, collects a fee,” said Dori. “Most ports in the country are self sustaining. The money they get from the airlines, from the shipping companies, is enough to pay all their expenses. But not the sleazy Port of Seattle.”

Dori and producer Jake tried to get Commissioner Holland to comment on the story, but the Commissioner and port representatives declined the opportunity to comment on The Dori Monson Show.
