Seahawk Golden Tate faces Twitter hate

“Dang bro is that how u really feel?”

That’s what Golden Tate tweeted in response to vicious messages he’s received on Twitter since catching the Seahawk’s game winning, though disputed, catch on Monday Night Football.

He included an image of the kind of replies he’s been dealing with on the social network.

Twitter can be a mirror on society. Hold it still for a moment and you see the best and worst of what people think and do.

Tate picked up an additional 6,000 Twitter followers in the days after catching Russell Wilson’s touchdown pass at Century Link. He’s also picked up some haters.

@ShowtimeTate has been called a cheater, a non-Christian, and several derogatory and racist names. Another called him a “non-talent” who will be out of the league in a few years, and others wished ill will on his family members.

The wide receiver for the Hawks is coming off two victories in a row, and two controversies. Last week was fined $21,000 for a block on Dallas linebacker Sean Lee that “decleated” him as Seahawks play-by-play announcer Steve Raible called it.

The highs Tate feels personally for his play this season are accompanied by the lows on Twitter. All celebrities on Twitter have their share of bashers. These stars seem like they can take it because their personalities or actions are larger than life, but to some degree negative comments get to everybody. Easy to delete, and just as easy to repeat in your mind after you’ve seen something offensive.

The Golden Tate Rule: What you do unto others on the football field is your job, it’s not who you are.
