Shower thoughts: An apology; and the best politician in Seattle

It’s Wednesday, and even though the construction guys tried to turn off my water, I intercepted them in protest and got through some Shower Thoughts.

RELATED: Why you should listen when Councilmember Juarez speaks

Kshama Sawant

Whatever your stance is on Seattle Councilmember Kshama Sawant, she is clearly one of, if not the best, politician in town. By being so far out to the left, she made the radical idea of the head tax seem like it was a compromise. The head tax is an anti-capitalist idea at its core. It would have never even seen a vote in 99 percent of the cities in America. Say what you will about her, but she’s a one woman wrecking crew.

Overturn the head tax?

Speaking of destroying the business climate, the Seattle Times Editorial Board all but begged its readers today to rise up and overturn this new tax through an initiative before it can even start. That’s a bold move for a news outfit, but I believe they are right.

They say we only need 21,770 signatures. Where do I sign?

Mariners

So Mariner’s second baseman Robinson Cano is on the juice — allegedly. I wonder how many other Seattle household names in professional sports are taking performance enhancing drugs? My guess would be at least 25 if not more between all the teams in town.

An apology about service animals

I believe that an apology is in order. After my rant yesterday about American Airlines’ new service animal regulations, Sean sent me a photo of a seeing eye miniature horse assisting his human. It might have been the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. I’m now pro-mini-horse.

Golden State Killer

After they made an arrest in the Golden State Killer cold case a few weeks ago, I bought the Michelle McNamara book “I’ll Be Gone in the Dark.” She died in her sleep at 46 before completing the book. It was finished by her husband, actor and comedian, Patten Oswalt. I’m about 30 percent through it now. If you enjoy true crime, it’s an amazing read.

It’s especially poignant knowing the details of Michelle’s death and that an arrest finally happened after all these years.

Affordable housing

I ran across an interesting study this morning. Would you like to guess how many states in America have an adequate supply of affordable housing? Half? A quarter? Maybe 10 percent?

If you guessed zero, you’re today’s big winner. So I guess Washington state is not alone. We are among the most stressed, but we’re not the worst. So we have that going for us, which is nice.

From Nirvana, to Foo Fighters, to a recital

And finally, YouTube suggested a video to me last night that brought a smile to my face. It’s a cell phone video from what appears to be some kind of charity event. On the stage is Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl. He proceeds to back up his 12-year-old daughter Violet on guitar while she sings one of her favorite Adele songs.  Check it out.

You can hear “What are we talking about here?” everyday at 4:45 p.m. on 97.3 FM.
