Shower thoughts: Seattle crime, affordability, and separated kids

It’s Wednesday, so let’s do some shower thoughts.

Put down the iPad, get outside

Congrats to all the kids for making it through another school year. I remember how excruciatingly slow that last month went by for me as a kid. Enjoy your summer! And to reiterate what everyone else is saying, for gods sake, put down the devices and go outside. Skin your knee and get a sunburn. Ride your bike and knock on your friends door without texting first. Go be a kid.

Separated

Speaking of kids. Of the 2,053 children separated from their families at the border, Homeland Security says 522 have been reunited. So that means about a local elementary school’s worth of kids are still being detained. Many are not even the same state as their parents.

New Year’s resolution

I’m usually not a New Year’s resolution guy, but I did one this year. My goal was to not buy any new clothes or shoes until July. I found that I was buying stuff online when I was bored or sad, and then a bunch of boxes would show up of stuff I really didn’t need. I’m one week out from my goal and I’m going to call it a success. My only slip up was a pair of bike shorts with the padding and a hat I got in Dublin. I really need some new t-shirts.

Woodinville poker winner

Shout out to a good friend of mine from Woodinville who took second last night in World Series of Poker event no. 49. He won over $629,000. Not bad for four day’s work. Good job Rep.

Renter incentives

It’s been a few years since the last time I’ve seen them, but signs are popping up all over the place offering incentives for renters. Maybe we’ve finally turned a corner on housing inventory? Is it affordable? I doubt it, but at least things are swinging back toward the renters.

Smash and grab suspect

And if the Seattle Police Department is listening, I’m willing to push out the photos of the man brazenly breaking into South Lake Union small businesses and stealing cash registers on my social media. I don’t know if you’re withholding the photos on purpose, but let’s strike while the iron’s hot. Seems like every day that goes by increases the likelihood that he gets away with it.
