Shower Thoughts: Still laughing over the Seattle streetcar

Let’s do some Wednesday Shower Thoughts, shall we? These are some of the random things that ping pong thru my noggin while in the shower.

Weather complaints

I’d like to propose a new sliding complaint scale when talking about the weather. The minimum temperature needed for a Pacific Northwesterner to complain is at least 91 degrees. Anything under 90 is a clear no-complaint day. In the fall and winter, fire up the complaints after 10 days of continuous rain or snow that sticks to the ground. That’s it, all other weather is complaint free.

Stubborn Earl Thomas

I love how Earl Thomas plays football, but I think the way he’s approaching his contract dispute is going to backfire on him. Passive aggressively posting pics of yourself working out every day like a jilted girlfriend showing off her revenge bod on Instagram is not going to make the team renegotiate with you. However, it seems that Earl is one of those rare individuals whose stubbornness knows no bounds. This should be interesting.

Streetcar no one desires

So nobody thought to measure the tracks and maintenance barn before ordering $52 million in new trolleys? Um, like, how do I even make fun of this? It’s one thing to buy the wrong sized batteries when you go to the drugstore, but come on! Is it too late to just scrap the entire trolley program? Maybe we can park the 10 new trolleys, crank up the AC, and use them as cooling stations around the city?

SPD lip-sync video

Wow, it’s a tough call between the new Seattle Police lip-sync video and their challengers — the Norfolk, Virginia Police Department. Seattle definitely wins in the quality of the shots and the cameo appearances by the likes of Walter Jones, Lenny Wilkens, and King Felix, but Norfolk shot their video in one take. That’s incredibly difficult to do. It’s a smaller city and smaller department, so I can’t really dock them for not having the star power. Plus “Uptown Funk” is a better song than “Downtown.” Who do you think won the battle?

Stand up paddle-boarding on Lake Union does not look very fun.

Confused about SPF

So what does the SPF number actually mean? Does SPF 30 mean you could stay in the sun 30 times longer than without the lotion? Is SPF 100 ten times more powerful than SPF 10? That doesn’t seem right. So a kid wearing SPF 100 could stay in the sun for 10 hours vs one hour for the kid wearing SPF 10? I’m confused.

That’s it, cold showers feel pretty good on a day like today.

You can hear “What are we talking about here?” everyday at 4:45 p.m. on 97.3 FM.
