Kirkland has been ranked as the third-best place to live in the U.S., according to a new poll from Money Magazine, with only one other Washington city making the list.

The top two places to live, according to the poll, are Atlanta, Georgia, and Tempe, Arizona.

According to Money Magazine, the rankings are determined by a series of factors including the cost of living, the local job market, and the amount of exciting and fun things to do in the area.

The magazine described Kirkland as a “family-friendly, community-focused town with great schools and employment opportunities.” Kirkland’s waterfront location, parks, and pedestrian-friendly downtown district were also highlights.

Seattle ranked among the worst managed cities, new study finds

On the Bryan Suits Show, host Bryan Suits discussed the findings and thought the article left out some critical details about what living in Kirkland is actually like.

“Kirkland residents do pay a premium for their waterfront lifestyle with the average one-bedroom rental nearing $2,000,” Suits said. “Having spent a lot of time in Kirkland, even at the height of the summer – unless you actually live on the water – I wouldn’t call it a lakefront lifestyle.”

The other Washington location to make the list is Camas, on the Columbia River.

Bryan had a different recommendation for where he thinks the absolute best place to live in Washington is … if you can afford it.

“Yeah, it’s not like Kirkland’s a great secret or anything, but if money was no object, I got to say that living in Winslow, it’s a pretty good deal,” Suits said. “If you work in Seattle, and you can manage to walk to the ferry dock, that is a state-subsidized pretty damn good deal.”
