Using the 12th Man spirit to save lives in Zambia

A local non-profit is hoping the spirit of the 12th Man can reach all the way to Southern Africa.
Federal Way-based World Vision is spearheading the Seattle area’s first “Flash Philanthropy” project, called
One City, One Cause, inspired by the energy and passion of Seahawks fans.
They’re hoping to raise $500,000 in one week to finish a desperately needed hospital and medical clinic in Zambia.
Both the clinic in the town of Hamaundu and the hospital in neighboring Moyo will provide space for mothers who are close to giving birth, beds for recovery after birth, living space to attract highly qualified medical personnel, updated medical equipment, running water and solar powered electricity.
The old medical facility in this area had the roof cave in. Mothers are now forced to deliver in a temporary facility with no power or running water. One mother recently gave birth to twins by candle light.
If One City, One Cause is successful, the new medical buildings will be painted Seahawks green and blue in honor of the 12th Man.
But, they’ve got just one week to do it. The project will end in just seven days.
