What are they building? Construction underway for much needed Bothell City Hall

The City of Bothell’s population has grown rapidly, but its city hall hasn’t grown with it.

The current building was built in a time when the city’s population was 800. The population is now 41,500.

That’s why this week’s edition of “What are they building?” focuses on a project that is a key element to the City of Bothell’s revitalization.

A new city hall is going in at 18305 101st Ave NE. The first phase of the project is expected to be complete in October. The second phase is expected to be finished February 2016.

The building will be a mixed-use gathering place. It will include 251-car parking spaces, according The City of Bothell. The city hall is being developed by City Investors Development, an affiliate of Vulcan Inc.

The project is a “key element of the city’s downtown revitalization plan that has already attracted over $200 million in private investment,” according to the City. There is an additional $450 million in private investment expected to come in over the next few years.

The structure will include below-grade parking beneath a 53,000-square-foot office building and town hall/community meeting rooms. There will be an attached single-story council chambers and conference/support building. The main building will be about 75 feet wide and 204 feet long. The attached council chambers and support building will be 60 feet wide and 110 feet in length.

The new city hall will be constructed with a target of achieving the LEED Gold standard.

The project will cost $46,764,365. The City of Bothell will own the building outright when debt payments are fully paid. There is a 25-year financing plan, which will start in 2016.

The project broke ground Sept. 3, 2014.
