When you erase words, you erase thoughts

There is a Brown University graduate student who is making a strong effort to warn Americans about what is going on at our college campuses.

He’s saying that you can’t have a discussion that includes a varying point of view. And our college campuses are creating a sort of “monster” which won’t allow rational discussion.

What is happening on our campuses is the teaching of the view that there are words that cannot ever be spoken. But if there are words that cannot be spoken what happens to the thoughts behind those words?

If, as a college student, you’re told that speaking the word “conservative” creates havoc and requires a trigger warning, we have a problem. By enforcing these thought codes, a sort of banishment is put in place.

Young people in college want to be accepted. So differing points of view are shut down and don’t even get to the point of being discussed. And this is a power that not only erases words, but erases thoughts as well. This is moving off of college campuses and entering the “real world.”

We need to be role models, trust our own ideas and rationally share them fully with our children.
