On Thursday, KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson was planning to jump out of an airplane live on air, but with the Malaysian Air tragedy, he decided it wouldn’t be appropriate for broadcast.

Only Dori still felt he had to jump. Dori explained on Friday’s show that the plan Thursday was to jump with his daughter and her friends, one of whom was scheduled for a serious surgery.

“One of the girls from the UW, her name is Bree. About two months ago, Bree started losing feeling in her fingers, toes, hands and feet. They didn’t know what was going on. Finally, they got an MRI and found a mass in her brain,” said Dori. “She had a five-hour surgery scheduled for noon Friday.”

The original skydive was scheduled for 2:30 p.m. live on air. “I was really sad when I thought I wasn’t going to be able to do this with them.”

But the girls managed to arrange a later jump time and Dori scrambled up to Skydive Snohomish to make the flight.

He says he never thought in a million years that his daughter would jump out of a plane, but says. “She had a blast. All her friends had a blast.”

He said it was great hearing Bree scream as her chute opened. Her parents were there to watch her big jump.

“It was an incredible experience.”

Dori’s own screams were the subject of lots of laughs on Friday’s show. Don’t miss him recapping his great skydiving experience:
