Do you have a favorite child, and if so would you admit it? A Canadian broadcaster and writer is drawing plenty of criticism after saying in a blog post his older son is his favorite.

In a post titled “Admit it, you have a favourite (sic). I do,” Buzz Bishop writes about his older son “I just…yknow…like him better.”

The post has drawn the ire of plenty of commenters, who say he’s being insensitive to his children, especially since they might grow up and read the post later on.

“It’s wrong to say something,” says KIRO co-host Tom Tangney in a discussion on Seattle’s Morning News.

Tangney says he would never admit it publicly even if he had a favorite. But it doesn’t stop him from messing with his two daughters.

“Whenever Madeline asks me who my favorite is I say Kate, whenever Kate asks me who my favorite is I say Madeline and it drives them crazy.”

But co-host Linda Thomas says that’s just wrong.

“I think if you had more kids it might be easier to pick a favorite out of the pack, but I just have two and I love them both.”

Commenter Laurie McGeary was among many taking Bishop to task for the post:

“Have you ever stopped to think how you would have felt if your father posted to the world that he liked your sibling better than you? Think about Charlie and what he now has to live up to. It’s one thing for you to think it, it’s another for you to say it out loud. As you pointed out, he’s two. Z is 5. Their abilities will change with time and so will your “likes,” but what won’t change is you posting that you like one son over the other. Words you put in print can not be taken back…”

But Bishop defends himself in a subsequent post:

“I don’t love either of my sons any more than the other, but I do like them differently. I’d be willing to bet you’re the same. He can do more things. To me, he’s more fun,” he continued about his older son Zacharie.

Was Bishop wrong to make his feelings known publicly?
